The opening of Martin Luther High School in September 1960 coincided with the visit of Hurricane Donna, a Category 3 storm of 90 mph winds, five inches of rain, and tidal damage in New York City and on Long Island. Despite that harrowing beginning, by God's grace, Martin Luther High School is now celebrating 50 years of educating and serving students and families of Brooklyn and Queens.
Over those years, we have changed and we have stayed the same!
Martin Luther High School has changed during these five decades. We have initiated new and effective instructional methods. We have integrated the latest educational technology in our class work and in our delivery of instruction. And, exercising our independent school status, we have adopted the more rigorous curriculum of the Advanced Placement Program.
However, Martin Luther High School has not changed in its mission to provide quality Christian education and excellent academic college-preparatory education for its students. Our students thrive in a safe, nurturing educational environment, forming lasting friendships for life. Our alumni now total over 4,400, and they serve faithfully in fields of education, finance, medicine, business, professional ministry, the military, service professions, entertainment, research, and many more. They attribute their success and contributions to society to the education and support they received at Martin Luther High School.
