Martin Luther High School offers a wealth of extracurricular activities. New Clubs can always be formed if there is student interest. The Director of student Activities will be happy to work with interested students to form new clubs.
The Cougar Chronicle is a student-run newspaper. It is published monthly, and focuses on the activities and interests of MLHS students. Issues included feature articles on students and teachers, movie and album reviews, and accounts of school events. With the guidance of the Faculty Advisor, staff members learn how to write for a newspaper, as well as desktop publication techniques to design the publication.
Martin Luther High School’s yearbook, Invictus, is published annually, and distributed to the students in the fall. It is created using the latest desktop publishing tools. The yearbook staff incorporates candid student-taken photos and professional portraits into the design of the book. Athletic teams, clubs and organizations are also featured in the book.
MLHS sponsors a chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. The purpose is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership and to encourage the development of character in all students. Students are selected for membership in the society by faculty council, based on a academic excellence, good character, service to the school, and positive leadership.
Chapel Committee Students are invited and encouraged to participate in the planning of Martin Luther’s weekly Chapel services. Students assist in the worship, reading Scripture lessons, singing or playing instrument, and acting out Bible lessons. Students meet with faculty members to plan the worship schedule for the year.
German Club, French Club & Spanish Club These organizations allow students the opportunity to experience firsthand the culture of the other countries beyond their textbooks. The students share their cultural backgrounds and learn more about customs and beliefs of other nations. The groups have been known to dine in restaurants serving that country’s food, see movies from that country, take trips to local museums and even travel to that country. Trips to Europe and Mexico and Mexico are organized by the club’s advisor and the students.
Key Club As a high school division of Kiwanis International, this organization carries out the motto “We Build” through school and community service projects. With an emphasis on leadership training, the MLHS Key Club sponsors clothing and food drives, neighborhood clean-up activities, tutoring sessions with elementary school students and volunteers at local nursing homes.
