Martin Luther High School has created a legendary Athletic program. Our students compete against other schools in the Private Schools Athletic Association as well as against each other in our intramural program.
In order to graduate from Martin Luther High School and receive an academic diploma, students are required to complete 2 units of Physical Education. To meet this State requirement, students are assigned to a gym class that meets every other day, throughout the school year.
Intra-Scholastic Competition
Martin Luther High School also offers young student-athletes three seasons in which to compete in Inter-Scholastic sports. Martin Luther High School is a charter member of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) and the New York State Association of Independent Schools and competes in many local and regional games and tournaments against private, PSAL and Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) schools. All athletic teams and events are governed by regulations formulated by the New York State Association of Independent Schools. This ensures standardized and fair competition throughout.
Intramural Competition
Martin Luther’s Athletic Department gives students the opportunity to participate in intramural tournaments against their classmates, other classes and even the faculty and staff! These popular events include basketball, volleyball, soccer and floor hockey competitions.
Physicals
Prior to participating in practice or competition, a student must have a physical examination, certifying in writing that he/she is able to fully participate in the desired sport. Under no circumstances will a student be allowed to participate without a physician’s written consent.
Practice Schedules
Team practice sessions are determined by the individual coaches, and are usually held after classes each school day. At times, practices are also scheduled for Saturdays or during vacation periods. While at practice, students are under the supervision of the coaching staff.
Academic Performance
Athletes must maintain a grade point average of 70 to remain a team member in good standing.
