Come meet Donna Younghese and you will see why we say there is no one better suited to be our Principal,” Jim Regan, MLS’s Executive Director boasted.  “Her experience is evident and her passion and excitement when any one of our students has even a small success is incredibly infectious,” he added.

Mrs. Younghese joined MLS as a School Counselor 2 days prior to 9/11. “That was a very enlightening time for me and one that made me put every skill I had into practice from the get-go as I assessed each student,“ she said looking back. “From that day on, we have continued to focus on our student’s individual psychological needs to prepare them for success in the classroom, for college and for life as good people, too,” she proudly added. In 2008, she became the Director of MLS’s Counseling Center, where she drove major additions to the curriculum that resulted in a much wider variety of course offering. “This is really important as we uncover and develop student’s new interests, skills, and potential career pathways in our fast-changing world,“ Mrs. Younghese noted. “One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career is being there when students really need to be heard. It’s our job to know when they need even more individual attention. Some need more academic challenges and some need extra help when they begin to fall behind,” she said.

A mother of 3 MLS students herself, Mrs. Younghese strives to make MLS the very best school for all students so they can be their very best (and “soar”, as she puts it). “My husband and I feel there is no better place for students to learn and grow. For example, I never dreamed that my own kids would be challenged to play an instrument and do well at it, because they always seemed to put sports first. Now all 3 excel in math or science and 1 even loves poetry!” she exclaimed.

“Mrs. Younghese knows every student is different, every family is different and every situation is different. It’s as though students get an education tailored just to them and parents have a partner every step of the way,” stated a colleague who obviously enjoys working with her.

Donna assumed the top Academic post of Principal at MLS this year after serving as Assistant Principal since 2013. “My goals now are strengthening our parent connection, unleashing the many talents of our faith-driven and extremely dedicated faculty and expanding our students’ horizons and possibilities,” Mrs. Younghese enthusiastically declared. “After all, MLS is in NYC, a great place for students to see how our diversity leads to a better understanding of and respect for others’ cultures,” she quickly added. She sparkled with pride as she invited everyone to come to MLS’s Open House on October 13th from 11am to 3pm pm “to see why our small school really is the smart choice in so many ways.“
