We are blessed to welcome Roe Daraio, President of The Communities of Maspeth & Elmhurst Together, Inc., as one of our 2018 Cougar Golf Classic Honorees. Her role in the local community has had a tremendous impact on so many, including Martin Luther School. After her son David Daraio attended MLS, both have continued to be active members at our events and activities. We are very grateful to call them a part of our MLS family.

Roe Daraio explained that recognizing the Civic Association and the benefits they give to the community is what is most important about this honor from Martin Luther School. She is looking forward to seeing her son golf and to seeing the event in action. She explained, “people should register to golf and attend the dinner because it will be a good time…it is very important to support this school.”

When we asked her about her experience with MLS as a parent she answered enthusiastically saying, “It was fabulous…I couldn’t believe they knew all the kids by name. I remember getting happy grams from the teachers to let us know when David was doing really well. I was so surprised to get something like this, especially from a High School. David chose the school, and he loved the school. He liked that it was a small school, and he has never regretted choosing Martin Luther School. This was a school he wanted to go to, looked forward to going to and did well because of it.”

As the President of The Communities of Maspeth & Elmhurst Together, Inc. for over 30 years, Roe Daraio has been involved in a number of different causes to improve the community and family-life supported by our neighborhoods, businesses and schools. When we asked about her role she explained, "I coordinate with the community on many issues. We identify issues and try to resolve them. Our goal is to make the community a safer place to live, work and grow up in. We have had the same volunteers for many years, and are getting new members to help us. We try to unify our neighborhood…into one community. My mom told me to do something that matters every day…and this is something I live by. We look out for each other and care for each other.”

Roe also explained how important Martin Luther School is to the community saying, “This is a great place for our kids to go to school. These kids have been actively involved in the community. Martin Luther School is an asset to our community. I know they will remain involved in helping our community. People should be aware of the religious basis of this education which helps to shape its students.”

We are grateful to Roe and David Daraio for their consistent involvement with Martin Luther School. Community members like them have helped us to continue our mission and expand the opportunities we offer to so many students.

Please join us at the 2018 Cougar Golf Classic on June 18th, in support of Martin Luther School and our incredible Honorees.
