Martin Luther School announces its expansion of its Performing Arts Program to include Dance beginning Fall 2019.

“At MLS, we constantly seek ways to match our courses and program offerings with our students’ interests, so this is a clearly a winner”, stated MLS Principal, Donna Younghese. “We are as proud of our Arts as we are of our Academics and our Athletics,” she added. The Dance Program will be open to students Grades 6-12 through audition and will be taught by a student-favorite member of our current faculty, Ms. Laura Zambelli.

Ms. Zambelli has always had a passion for dance.  She grew up dancing at the Queens Dance Academy and was there for 30 years. Ms. Zambelli began as a member of one of their dance companies, which enabled her to dance competitively from the age of 8. She performed in many large and small group dances, as well as solo dances in local competitions. During her High School years, she attended Benjamin N. Cardozo High School for Dance, where she broadened her horizons by learning other genres of dance beyond what she was learning at the Academy.  In addition to her dancing, Ms. Zambelli became an assistant teacher at the Dance Academy for many years, before advancing to becoming a dance instructor 12 years ago. Her specialty was teaching tap, which she taught to the Academy’s Dance Company to dance at local performances, as well as in local dance competitions.  She has taught many years of award-winning group dances as well as solo dances.  Throughout her dance career, Ms. Zambelli was given a special opportunity not once, but twice, to perform in Walt Disney World with Queens Dance Academy.  “The experience of performing there was one of the most magical experiences of my life!,” she exclaimed, clearly enthusiastic about teaching Dance.
