MLS Welcomes Its New Director of Development, Jillian Michaelson

Born and raised in Oyster Bay, Long Island, Jillian attended parochial school where she learned about faith and service to others. One of her earliest volunteer assignments was at Mill Neck Manor’s Apple Festival. After attending college, Jillian began working in corporate America for Guardian Insurance and Ralph Lauren. After years of living in Manhattan, Jillian decided she wanted to make a change. An opportunity to work in Special Events at Mill Neck Family of Organizations was presented to her and with that Jillian joined the world of development.

From the minute Jillian walked in the door for her interview, we all felt her energy and passion for Martin Luther School,” Jim Reagan, Executive Director, proudly stated when he introduced her. “We have a great deal of momentum here at MLS as we continue to take our small school to new levels of preparing our students not only for college, but for life, too. Naturally we are delighted to welcome another faith-driven, Mission-focused professional to our Administrative team”, Regan added.

As the Director of Events and Coordinator of Development at Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, Jillian organized four annual fundraisers, oversaw commercial rentals and film shoots, and worked in tandem with the Marketing team on newsletters and appeals. Jillian worked closely with the staff and students at Mill Neck making sure each event highlighted the incredible students and members of their “Dayhab” adult services program. “This was a full circle moment for me as I was now organizing the historical Apple Festival at which I once volunteered! The relationships I have built at Mill Neck will be with me forever,” Jillian beamed.

Now as a member of the Martin Luther School Administration, Jillian is excited to bring her past experiences together to expand on an already wonderful development effort. “My favorite part of working in Development is the connections I get to make with the staff, students and members of our community. Martin Luther School’s closely-knit “family” atmosphere and the individual attention and tailored learning each student receives here at Martin Luther School inspire me every day as they are the model of education I was blessed to have. I look forward to immersing myself in the history and traditions of the school and its supportive community,” Jillian said. “I can really see why MLS is known as the Small School. Smart Choice, she added.”

Jim Bunn, MLS’s Director of Marketing, said when he met Jillian on her first day at MLS:
“It’s readily apparent that she truly values what MLS stands for and values our Mission as though she has been here for years. She is already diving into her role as we approach our14th Annual Cougar Classic Golf and Tennis Outing on May 17th, celebrating Jim Regan’s 40 years at MLS!” he exclaimed. “Her guidance, input and energy are especially important and welcome this year, because the proceeds from the event go to our Cougar Relief Fund for parents in need of tuition assistance as a result of the pandemic, he enthusiastically stated.“

When Jillian is not working, she is busy with her newborn son Gavin, husband Stephen, and her friends and family. Family is everything to Jillian and “Martin Luther School is the perfect t - Faith, service, and education,” she added.
